Fleitas, Professor  HYPERLINK "mailto:pfleitas@fau.edu" pfleitas@fau.edu, A&L, 245 COURSE OBJECTIVES: Vocal Chamber Music - explores the experience of ensemble performance of literature that is scored for solo voice and other combinations of instruments, including the piano. Students will prepare works for public performance, and in the process learn principles of interpretation, performance styles, rehearsal techniques, and ensemble collaboration/balance. COURSE PROCEDURES: Class sessions will be devoted to rehearsal and discussion of the scores programmed. Students are expected to rehearse at least one-hour a week in addition to class time. PERFORMANCE: Selected pieces from the repertoire assigned to the class will be prepared for performance during recital hours, Music at Noon, and any other opportunities that may arise in the course of the semester. The class will resume with a scheduled performance at the end of the semester. This performance will serve as the final exam for the course. GRADING CRITERIA * Attendance 20% * Weekly score preparation 40% * Song Analysis Forms 10% * Performances (2) 20% * Final exam (on song analysis) 10% GRADING: Grades will be on the following scale: 93-100% = A; 90-92=A-;87-89=B+; 83-86=B; 80-83=B-; 70-79=C; 60-69=D; 59 or below=F. INCOMPLETE GRADE POLICY: A grade of Incomplete will be assigned rarely and only in a documented case of extreme emergency or illness. ATTENDANCE POLICY: Attendance to all course activities is required. Anything in excess of one unexcused absence will lower the final grade by one grade per unexcused absence. Attendance is also required of all members of the ensemble for all rehearsal/performance activities. COURSE SCHEDULE: The class will meet once a week for one hour and 20 minutes.
