As a trans/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/formational wellness coach, a university pro/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/fessor, a licensed master social worker, and a metaphysical minister, I know that sel/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/f-care is one o/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/f the most /thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/foundational and e/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/f/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/fective tools we have to guide our own lives, to /thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/function at our optimal levels, and to give our individual gi/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/fts to the world.

I advocate, teach, and coach /thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/for intentional living. Being intentional includes a prevention mindset. As such, I believe we need to turn the tables and live in wellness /thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/first. We have to /thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/fit our lives and our work into our sel/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/f-care practice, rather than the other way around.

To practice sel/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/f-care is to purposely engage in activities that help us to be well in any number o/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/f areas in our lives. We can practice sel/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/f-care /thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/from our own rhythm. Sel/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/f-care is personal and cultural, and each person鈥檚 sel/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/f-care plan can change with time, location, and circumstances. Sel/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/f-care is not just some nice, warm, cozy concept where we drink tea, attend an occasional yoga class, or check 鈥済et together with a /thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/friend鈥 o/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/f/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/f our sel/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/f-care to-do list.

Un/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/fortunately, we tend to think about sel/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/f-care /thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/from a distance, as something we are supposed to do, but we o/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/ften /thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/fail to think it through or make any kind o/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/f plan /thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/for it. We have little context, structure, or accountability because we don鈥檛 have a clear enough understanding o/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/f what sel/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/f-care has the potential to be.听

I believe that we are beholden to one another. We are in community and in relation with everyone on the planet, so someone else鈥檚 wellness or dis-ease directly a/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/f/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/fects our own wellness and vice versa. I don鈥檛 think we can truly be well i/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/f we are not supporting wellness /thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/for everyone. We need to do this together. This is about sel/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/f-care /thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/for all, which will allow us to thrive, despite immersion in a sometimes dangerous and stress/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/ful world.

I embrace sel/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/f-care as an act o/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/f justice, because sel/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/f-care builds resilience and community, and has the potential to make impact/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/ful societal changes.

When we practice sustained and sustainable sel/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/f-care, we /thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/fundamentally change our way o/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/f relating to ourselves and to one another, while bringing greater wellness to our communities and cultures, and ultimately making important changes in our health care systems, legislations, and regulations.

Let us say YES to move decidedly and mind/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/fully in the direction o/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/f hope, resilience, stability, wellness, and love /thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/for ourselves and /thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/for others. This is sel/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/f-care in its most sustainable way.

Through intentional and sustained sel/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/f-care we are better able to /thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/find and give our unique talents, gi/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/fts, and contributions to the world, while simultaneously learning our li/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/fe鈥檚 lessons. I also believe this is a cyclical process. As we give our best selves, we are mind/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/ful to learn our lessons, and in this space, we are inherently practicing sustained sel/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/f-care.

To achieve this, we must:

  • de/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/fine sel/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/f-care /thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/for ourselves

  • take the time to know why we do what we do and decide to place the highest value on our wellness through the sustained practicing o/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/f sel/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/f-care

  • have a sel/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/f-care plan that is written down, which we revisit as o/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/ften as necessary

  • reach out /thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/for support and o/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/f/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/fer support so that we can all succeed with our sel/thrive/students/thrive-thursdays/breathe/f-care plans
