Ross Deuchar, PhD, is Professor of Criminology at the University of the West of Scotland and Affiliate Professor of Research within the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice at 大象传媒. For the last two decades, Ross鈥檚 research has mostly been focused on street gang culture, violence and organized crime as well as police-community relationships and police legitimacy.

In 2017, Dr. Deuchar was Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence at 大象传媒鈥檚 School of CCJ, and he is the author/co-author of seven books, including the award-winning听Police Community Relations in Times of Crisis: Decay & Reform in the Post-Ferguson Era听[BUP, 2021]which won the American Society of Criminology Division of Policing Outstanding Book Award in 2021. He has a particular interest in spirituality [in its broadest sense] and his 2018 Palgrave McMillan book,听Gangs & Spirituality, documented insights from research he had conducted across three Continents of the world exploring the role of spiritual interventions such as mindfulness meditation in the desistance journeys of violent male offenders. He has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals on his research on street gangs and on policing, and he is regularly called upon by the broadcast media to comment on these issues.
