Florida Atlantic Day at the Capitol
Thursday, Feb 20, 2025
This week, the Owls took center stage in Tallahassee for Florida Atlantic Day at the Capitol. I was joined by an esteemed delegation of University leaders, students, alumni and elected officials as we spent the day meeting with our state legislators. It was a spirited and energetic visit that allowed us to showcase Florida Atlantic’s incredible achievements — including our rise to No. 103 in the U.S. News & World Report rankings and our recently announced designation as an R1: Very High Research Spending and Doctorate Production University in the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education.
Throughout the day, our delegation spoke to the remarkable impact of Florida Atlantic in our community and across the state. From groundbreaking research to transformative student success, the University’s accomplishments were met with enthusiasm and support from state legislators, who recognize our vital role in shaping Florida’s future. These meaningful conversations and connections reinforced our mission and strengthened our ability to make even greater strides in the years ahead.
While in Tallahassee, Florida Atlantic hosted a reception for alumni and friends in the area. We were joined by members of the Florida Board of Governors and our Owl Caucus, which is a group of legislators who advocate for Florida Atlantic. Several alumni are members of the Owl Caucus, including Representatives Lisa Dunkley, Jervonte Edmonds, Mike Giallombardo, Chip LaMarca and Toby Overdorf. It was wonderful to connect with our many friends and alumni while celebrating the University’s continued success.
Thank you to everyone who attended Florida Atlantic Day at the Capitol, and to all of our state legislators who welcomed us. With their support, we will continue to elevate the achievements of Florida Atlantic while creating new opportunities for our students and our state.
