The organizations purpose is to promote and foster a culture of research at ý and to provide students with opportunities to become immersed in this culture. Focused on the undergraduate level, but encompassing graduate students, opportunities sponsored by CSI will include peer mentoring, and peer advising at ý. CSI aims to help students gain access to ýs great existing resources as well as create new ones. Article 3- Membership Section A. Membership in [Name of Registered Student Organization] is open to all enrolled students at ý. Non-enrolled students, spouses, faculty, and staff may be associate members; however, they may not vote or hold office. All members and associate members are free to leave and disassociate without fear of retribution, retaliation, or harassment. Section 1 Active Members Active members should be registered undergraduate or graduate students at ý. Section 2 Member Duties Respect and obey the constitution Respect other members Regular attendance of meetings Active participation Section 3 Legal Responsibilities CSI shall be in full compliance with all Federal and State nondiscrimination and equal opportunity laws, orders, and regulations. CSI shall be open to all currently enrolled ý Students, except if specifically exempted by law. CSI shall not discriminate based on gender, race, color, sex, disability, age, sexual orientation, or political and religious affiliation in any of its policies, procedures, or practices. Article 4 - University Regulations Section A. CSI will abide by all Federal, State, and Local Laws and ý Regulations and policies, including but not limited to the Student Code of Conduct, Code of Academic Integrity, Regulation 4.006, Alcohol and Drug Policy, and all requirements as outlined in the Registered Student Organization Manual. Section B. CSI agrees to abide by the Florida AntiHazing Law in the Student Code of Conduct and the Registered Student Organization Manual. Hazing - Any action or situation, which occurs on or off university property, that recklessly or intentionally endangers the mental or physical health or safety of a student for purposes including, but not limited to, initiation or admission into or affiliation with any University student organization or group whether or not officially recognized by the university. Hazing does not include customary athletic events or other similar contests or competitions or any activity or conduct that furthers a legal and legitimate objective. Hazing includes, but is not limited to: 1. Pressuring or coercing a student into violating state or federal law; 2. any brutality of a physical nature, such as whipping, beating, branding, exposure to the elements, forced consumption of any food, liquor, drug, or other substance; or other forced physical activity that could adversely affect the physical health or safety of the student; 3. Any activity that would subject the student to extreme mental stress, such as sleep deprivation, forced exclusion from social contact, forced conduct that could result in extreme embarrassment, or other forced activity that could adversely affect the mental health or dignity of the student. 4. The perpetuation or furtherance of a tradition or ritual of any university student organization or group whether or not officially recognized by the university. Article 5- Officers Section 1 The officers of this organization shall be President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Marketing Director, Club Liaison, Club Ambassador (3), Outreach Coordinator, URI Travel Committee. Section 2 In order to be eligible for an officer position, the candidate must meet the requirements as specified by Regulation 4.006. All officers must be registered degree-seeking ý students who meet the Universitys minimum qualifications for student officers, which is a 2.5 cumulative GPA and be registered for 6 credits hours for undergraduate students, and a 3.0 cumulative GPA and 3 credit hours for graduate students. Officers must be in good academic standing and not on probation. Students serving as President must have earned at least 12 college credits. A student may serve in the same position or office for a maximum of two terms during his/her academic career at ý. A students academic career includes his/her undergraduate, graduate, and professional course work. Article 6 Officer Responsibilities Section 1 - President The President shall: Be directly responsible for actions of this organization. Preside and chair all general meetings. Co-sign all organizations documents and records in conjunction with the specified officer in charge of said document or record. Fulfill all other duties associated with the office. Section 2 - Vice President The Vice president shall: Assume the Presidents duties in the event of his/her absence. Ensure the completion of re-registration each year Organize club activities, plan and recommend contests for operating benefits, and advance club interest and activity as approved by the club. Section 3 Secretary The Secretary shall: Be responsible for the maintenance of this organizations non-financial executive records. Maintain the organizations data storage system and keep the list of permissions to the data storage system current. Keep a calendar of all events. Coordinate with President and/or Vice President to develop an agenda for meetings Take attendance at each general meeting. Write up brief summaries of meetings to keep on record for reference. Section 4 - Treasurer The Treasurer shall: Be responsible for the maintenance of all financial records. Execute all necessary budget transactions. Co-sign all financial transactions and records in conjunction with the President. Ensure the submission of the annual budget form to Student Government and any necessary requests for emergency funding Section 5 - Marketing Director The Marketing Director shall: Maintain the organizations Owl Central site, Instagram account, and any other social media Promote the recruitment of new members through advertising and marketing. Oversee reserving of space for events and Owl Central submissions Section 6 - Club Liaison The Club Liaison shall: a. serve as a bridge between CSI and other clubs/organizations b. foster relationships with other clubs/organizations and collaborations c. Table when possible, to assist with outreach Section 7: Outreach Coordinator The Outreach Coordinator shall: coordinate tabling opportunities, table when possible work with Marketing Director to promote events work with Club Liaison to create strategic relationships within the community Section 9: URI Travel Committee The URI Travel Committee members shall: coordinate with Student Activities and Involvement for the reviewing of travel applications Article 6 Selection of Officers Section 1 - The officers of the organization shall be elected by ballot of the members present. Section 2- If a tie occurs, tie breaks will be as follows: (1) The person(s) elected will defer if he/she has held the position previously (2) The person(s) elected will defer to the person(s) with no prior experience in office (3) Seniority in undergraduate education will be given precedence (4) GPA will be used as last tie break Section 3- The officers shall be elected by the second meeting of the current semester and shall take office immediately. Section 4 Term of office is one school year (Summer-Spring). Section 5 - An officer may voluntarily hold more than one position of office if he/she runs unchallenged in the election of officers. Section 6 Officers can be reelected by unanimous vote, however, he/she will defer to person(s) with no prior experience in office if vote is not unanimous. Article 7- Officer Vacancies Section 1 - Vacancies occurring between elections must be filled by special elections at the first regular meeting following withdrawal or resignation. Section 2 - Term of replacement office will last until the end of elected semester. Section 3 If deemed necessary, officers may be removed by a three-fourths vote of the members. Article 8- Advisor Section 1 The advisor will meet with officers, give final approval for project & event proposals, as well as oversee activities of CSI. Section 2 The advisor will be selected whose faculty position, or interests, reflect the interests of Ecology Education, Diversity, and Sustainability. Section 3 - At least one advisor MUST be a full-time faculty, AMP or SP staff member at ý Article 9 Meetings Section 1 Regular meeting schedule shall be determined at the first meeting in accordance with the advisor and member schedules. Meetings shall be held at bi-weekly, at least, and once a week if applicable. Section 2 Special meetings may be called by the advisor or any member as deemed necessary. A special meeting must be scheduled several days in advanced to allow efficient communication and planning of the meeting. Section 3 A quorum for any regular or special meeting shall consist of at least 50% + 1 of the members. Section 4 The procedures listed in Roberts Rules of Order will be used to conduct meetings. Article 10 - Amendments The constitution or By-laws may be amended by a two-thirds vote of the total membership. Proposals for amendments shall be submitted in writing at a regular meeting and shall be voted on at the next regular meeting, providing all members have been notified by mail of the intent to amend the constitution and/or bylaws at said meeting. CSI. will have each member complete the following forms as a condition of membership: 1) Release of Liability Agreement, 2) Student Travel Code of Conduct. These forms must be completed annually by every member.
