Pregnancy/Parental support information

大象传媒 through the Office of Civil Rights and Title IX (OCR9) and in accordance with Federal and State laws and regulations is committed to creating and ensuring that pregnant and parenting students and employees are not denied or limited to access in educational programs and activities or benefits of employment because of pregnancy and related conditions. Floridia Atlantic University extends protections and support to pregnant and parenting Students and Employees who experience conditions associated with pregnancy, childbirth, parenting, and related circumstances.听 听

大象传媒 will provide reasonable support to pregnant and parenting Students and Employees, which is consistent with requirements proscribed in Federal and State Laws and Regulations and University Policy.

Types of supportive measures/modifications that may be provided under Title IX may include but is not limited to:听

  • Excused Absences
  • Leaves of Absence
  • Temporary parking modification
  • Reasonable changes in course schedules and course sequence
  • Reasonable extensions of classwork deadlines/modifications of make up policies/rescheduling exams
  • Access to lactation rooms/Breaks during class and work to attend to health needs
  • Reasonable classroom/workplace adjustments to equipment and devices (i.e., chairs, desks, floor mats, etc.)

Student Pregnancy and Related Conditions Considerations

Faculty members must be mindful regarding these Title IX provision concerning pregnancy.

  • It is unlawful to exclude a pregnant student from participating in any part of an educational program (applies extracurricular activities, sports, student leadership).
  • Special instructional programs or classes for pregnant students are allowed, but participation must be completely voluntary on the part of the student (programs must be comparable to those offered to other students).
  • Absences because of pregnancy or childbirth MUST be excused (it is allowed to require a doctor's note, so long as a doctor's note is required of all students for medical related reasons).
  • Any special services provided to students for "temporary medical conditions" MUST be provided to a pregnat student (i.e., online courses, medical withdrawal,etc.).
  • The student MUST be allowed to return to same academic and extracurricular status as before the pregnancy or related condition.

Employee Pregnancy and Related Conditions Considerations
University Employees with one or more years of continuous services shall be provided with up to six months unpaid parental leave.听
