Biography

Christine Toledo is a bilingual nurse that holds a Bachelor鈥檚 degree in Biological Sciences from Florida International University and a Master鈥檚 degree and PhD in Nursing from the University of Miami. She is a Registered Nurse and Certified Nurse Practitioner in the state of Florida. Her research interests include women鈥檚 health, maternal mental health, and health disparities.

Dr. Toledo has clinical expertise as a neonatal intensive care nurse at a level III NICU within a major teaching hospital within South Florida. For her dissertation, she used a population-based dataset to examine the relationship between breastfeeding and postpartum depression symptoms. Furthermore, her work explored social determinants and risk factors for postpartum depression. Dr. Toledo has extensive experience investigating and working with minority women living within the South Florida community. As a research assistant for the Minority Older Women living with HIV grant funded by Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, she investigated the HIV related needs of Black and Latina women living with HIV. She participated in the development and implementation of an evidence-based health intervention funded by Community Foundation of Broward (鈥溌ctuaYa!鈥 or 鈥淎ct Now!鈥), to help lower and prevent the risk of chronic health diseases in older Hispanic women through education and behavior modification strategies.
