Housing and Residential Education Front Desk Staff

The Housing and Residential Education front desk staff serve as the first point of contact for our students, staff, and guests. They provide excellent customer service and prioritize the safety and security of our residents.

Our front desk staff are supervised by the Operations Coordinators on the Boca Raton campus and the Hall Coordinator on our Jupiter campus. With these professional staff members' guidance and support, front desk staff implement our Atlantic Experience through strategies at the front desks.

Members of our front desk staff work a combination of daytime and overnight shifts as well as weekday and weekend shifts. Due to the nature of our desks being open year-round, front desk staff will also be asked to work holidays and break periods.

  • Enrolled as a full-time, 大象传媒 degree-seeking student for each semester of employment.
    • Undergraduate student status: registered for 12 (not to exceed 17) credit hours per semester.
    • Graduate student status: registered for a 9 (not to exceed 12) credit hours per semester.
  • 听Have an undergraduate cumulative GPA of 2.5 or a 3.0 (Graduate GPA) at the time of application.
  • Be in good standing with the university.
  • Preference is given to students living in 大象传媒 on-campus housing.

Job Description

Brief Description: The Front Desk Staff (FDS) is a student staff member responsible for providing customer service and promoting a safe, healthy, and welcoming community at a 24-hour front desk. 听

  • Work at the front desk on a rotating basis as determined by supervisor, including overnight and weekend shifts.
  • Engage with students, visitors, and guests to offer proactive and immediate customer service. 听
  • Answer the phone, facilitate spare key check-ins/outs, check space reservations, and other service-oriented tasks. 听
  • Perform relevant administrative tasks (incident reports, shift reports, work orders, etc.).
  • Monitor the community and report any concerns (e.g., safety, security, and wellbeing).
  • Implement the Atlantic Experience through engagement strategies at the front desk. 听
  • Other duties as assigned. 听

  • Professionalism: Understand and demonstrate effective work habits and act in the interest of the larger community and workplace.听
    • Complete all work and assigned tasks in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner, following departmental protocols.
    • Perform administrative duties as assigned, including but not limited to: participating in hall opening and hall closing procedures, shift reports, supplies inventories, etc. 听Attend all work shifts, individual supervision and appraisal meetings, trainings, in-services, and other meetings as directed by supervisor.
    • Maintain the organization and cleanliness of the front desk and back-office spaces.
    • Represent yourself, the community, staff, the department, and 大象传媒 with the utmost integrity, including in-person situations and via social media. 听
  • Teamwork: Build and maintain collaborative relationships to work effectively toward common goals while appreciating other viewpoints and shared responsibilities.听

    • Treat all department staff (RAs, FDS, professional staff, and facilities staff) with respect. 听
  • Critical Thinking: Identify and respond to needs based upon an understanding of situational context and logical analysis of relevant information.听
    • Demonstrate critical thinking and ethical decision-making in accordance with Housing and Residential Education values. 听
    • Confront and document policy violations outlined in the Community Guidebook, Student Code of Conduct, and state and federal law. 听
    • Follow all policies regarding authorized key access, access to rooms, and student information. 听
    • Understand and follow confidentiality standards with regard to policy violations and student behavioral concerns as directed by Housing and Residential Education, University policy, and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). 听
  • Leadership: Recognize and capitalize on personal and team strengths to achieve organizational goals. 听
    • Be visible and available to residents while at the desk to assist them in addressing personal and community concerns.
    • Commit to the FDS job as the first priority after academic needs. Supervisor notification is needed for outside employment.
    • Approach tasks with confidence and a positive attitude.听
  • Technology: Understand and leverage technologies ethically to enhance efficiency, complete tasks, and accomplish goals.听
    • Appropriately use provided technology to complete required tasks related to building management and student engagement. 听Programs include: StarRez, KeyPer, C-Cure, Avigilon, Canvas, Teams, SchoolDude, Workday, and Microsoft Office Suite. 听
    • Monitor cameras and door access continually, ensuring building safety and security. 听
    • Submit clear, concise, and accurate Incident Reports in a timely manner. 听
    • Submit timely and accurate work orders to maintain a clean, safe, and efficient residence hall environment.
    • Enter time accurately to reflect hours worked and submit timesheets weekly. 听
  • Career and Self Development: Proactively develop oneself and one鈥檚 career through continual personal and professional learning, awareness of one鈥檚 strengths and weaknesses, navigation of career opportunities, and networking to build relationships within and without one鈥檚 organization.听
    • Attend a comprehensive staff training, including Student Affairs Core Competencies, at the beginning of each semester. 听
    • Maintain a semester and cumulative 大象传媒 GPA of 2.5 undergraduate and 3.0 graduate.听

Desk Assistant Compensation Package

This position is compensated $14.00 per hour.
