Greek Officers Leadership Development (GOLD)

GOLD 2020

The Greek Officers Leadership Development (GOLD) program is a collaborative partnership between Fraternity & Sorority Life and Leadership Education And Development. The two departments come together to put on this program every January for newly elected and current chapter leaders across all four governing councils. The program spans multiple days and includes leadership development, hard and soft skills training, discussions surrounding various topics impacting the fraternal movement (including hazing, risk management, growth and expansion, and the ‘value’ of the fraternity/sorority experience), and relationship building among students as well as with staff members.

Outcomes of the program include:

  • Participants willÌýretainÌýa basic understanding of the leadership theories and principles reviewed in the program
  • Participants will be able to describe a situation where they would utilize or apply one of the leadership theories and principles reviewed in the program in their role as a chapter leader
  • Participants willÌýagreeÌýthat they are likely to utilize or apply one of the leadership theories and principles reviewed in the program in their role as a chapter leader
  • Participants will be able toÌýidentifyÌýthe goals, priorities and mission of Fraternity & Sorority Life
  • Participants will be able toÌýdescribeÌýhow they as a chapter leader support the goals, priorities and mission of Fraternity & Sorority LifeÌýÌý
  • Participants willÌýagreeÌýthat they are better equipped to help Fraternity & Sorority Life make progress toward its goals, priorities and mission as a result of attending GOLD
  • Participants will be able toÌýdescribeÌýsome hard and soft skills that they developed at GOLD, particularly those that are commonly used in fraternities and sororities
  • Participants willÌýagreeÌýthat the hard and soft skills training they received at GOLD will help them be a stronger and more effective chapter leader
  • Participants will be able toÌýdescribeÌýsome similarities and differences among the four governing councils
  • Participants willÌýestablishÌýat least one meaningful relationship with a chapter member in a similar leadership role
  • Participants willÌýagreeÌýthat establishing and maintaining relationships with other chapter leaders is important for Greek unity
