The Journal of Appreciative Education (JAE) is an open-access e-journal committed to promoting educational theories, practices, and collaborations from an Appreciative, strength-based perspective. We define Appreciative Education as educational theories, innovative practices, and thoughtful reflections that challenge deficit-based thinking in teaching and learning across all levels of education.

Call for Submissions

The Journal of Appreciative Education editorial team invites original submissions from a broad range of educational fields and perspectives, with a focus on Appreciative Education approaches in the following sections:

  • Research: This section includes full-length articles that:
    1. Present empirical research studies using quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods approaches, or
    2. Literature-based articles advancing theories and scholarship in Appreciative Education.
    Research articles should range from 5,000-8,000 words, including references, appendices, tables, and figures. Theoretical framework, research methods, findings, and implications need to be clearly articulated. Please include an abstract of 80-120 words.
  • Innovative Practice: This section invites short articles that:
    1. Detail innovative and effective ideas for improving practice through Appreciative Education, or
    2. Describe educational programs or courses highlighting Appreciative perspectives in education.
    Articles should be no more than 5,000 words in length. Specific strategies should be clearly presented that will help practitioners to replicate these practices in other contexts. Please include an abstract of 80-120 words.
  • Forum: This section invites short articles that:
    1. Promote new ideas and foster dialogue on current challenges in teaching and learning from an Appreciative Education perspective
    2. Reflect on the processes of research and practice in Appreciative Education.
    Articles should be no more than 2,500 words in length. Forum articles should bring to light new and creative ideas for moving Appreciative Education beyond its current state. Please include an abstract of 80-120 words.
