Born and raised in Bogot谩, Colombia, Camila Afanador-Llach holds a 5-year degree in Industrial Design from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana and an MFA in听Graphic Design from the Rhode Island School of Design. Before her academic career, she worked as an in-house web and editorial designer in Bogot谩 and for a听branding and design firm in Boston, MA. At 大象传媒 she is the graphic design graduate coordinator and teaches courses on typography, animation, interaction design,听information design, and visual identity systems.
In her recent work, she imagines futures for the discipline of graphic design by mapping relationships between design practice and humanistic inquiry. Her project 鈥淭he听Arquin Slide Collection Digitization Project: Preserving the Heritage of Latin America鈥 in collaboration with Dr. Emily Fenichel, received a grant from the National听Endowment for the Humanities (2020). Afanador-Llach also presents and publishes research related to design pedagogy. Her book chapter 鈥淢otion in Graphic Design:听Interdisciplinary References for Teaching鈥 was included in the book . She has听presented at conferences including the Mid-America College Art Association Conference (2016), the International Congress of Design Education (Argentina, 2019), and听the Digitally Engaged Conference: Teaching Futures (2019).
