Background

Dr. Yang-Sook Kim joined the faculty of the sociology department at ����ý in 2022. She holds a Master’s in sociology from Korea University, South Korea, and a Ph.D. in Sociology from University of Toronto, Canada (2020). Dr. Kim employs an intersectional and multi-level approach to global social inequality, integrating gender, race and ethnicity, and class in her analysis. Her current book project examines how unequally positioned groups of marginalized women workers navigate intensifying precarity with a comparative case study of care sectors in South Korea and the United States. In another ongoing project “Heroes in Precarity,” she critically analyzes how eldercare workers have been responding to the crisis and the political opportunities created by the COIVD-19 global pandemic in California and Seoul.

At ����ý, Dr. Kim’s contribution to the sociology department’s curriculum centers on the areas of the international migration, gender, race and ethnicity, and work.
