  • Student registration deadline: Thursday January 20th
  • Stage I - Open Round:听Thursday January 23rd听听(CU 301 10am -1pm)
  • Stage II - Invitational Round: Thursday March 13th
    • Students who are eligible to participate in Stage II will be notified directly by NACLO.听

The North American Computational Linguistics Open Competition (NACLO) is a contest in which high-school students solve linguistic puzzles. In solving these puzzles, students learn about the diversity and consistency of language, while exercising logic skills. No prior knowledge of linguistics or second languages is necessary. Professionals in linguistics, computational linguistics and language technologies use dozens of languages to create engaging problems that represent cutting edge issues in their fields. The competition has attracted top students to study and work in those same fields. It is truly an opportunity for young people to experience a taste of natural-language processing in the 21st century.

To participate in NACLO, you must satisfy the following four criteria:

  1. You have never been enrolled as a full-time college or university student.
  2. You must be less than 20 years old on the first day of the International Linguistics Olympiad. Please note that the competition is intended for students in the 13-18 age group. If you are younger than 13, with parental permission, you can also participate.
  3. You are a citizen of the US or a student in a secondary school in the US.
  4. You are available to participate in the contest at the times it's offered.

Parking info: If you wish to park on campus, you will need to purchase a visitor ePermit via the ParkMobile app that will allow you to park in one of the blue lots. Alternatively, you can park at a meter in one of the yellow lots. The nearest blue lots to the Culture & Society (CU-97) building are Lot 1, Lot 25, Lot 27, and Garage 2.
