大象传媒鈥檚 interdisciplinary program in Linguistics in the Department of Languages, Linguistics, and Comparative Literature (LLCL) offers听undergraduate and graduate degrees听with听concentrations in linguistics, an undergraduate linguistics minor, and undergraduate/graduate certificate in English as a Second Language (ESL) Studies.听Linguistics is also one of the areas of concentration听in the Ph.D. in Comparative Studies program. Our degrees and the ESL certificate prepare students for work in a variety of language related fields and for further study, including teaching ESL, translation, speech pathology, and graduate studies in linguistics and related fields. Linguistics program courses are taught by several departments (LLCL, English, Psychology, Communication & Multimedia Studies, and others). We offer coursework in the core areas of linguistics (phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics), bilingualism, language acquisition, language teaching methodology, psycholinguistics, field methods, semiotics, and sociolinguistics. We also offer courses in the linguistic structure, history and dialectology of several languages (English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish).听

Your Linguistics degree can be combined with another major/concentration, minor, and/or certificate. LIN3010, LIN4600, LIN4620, LIN4680, LIN4930, TSL4080, and TSL4251听can double-count toward the听ESL Studies Certificate.听FOL3880, LIN3010, and in lingua linguistics courses can double-count toward or in Arabic, French, German, Italian, Japanese, and听Spanish. LIN2607听and LIN4600 are听approved electives for the Certificate in Diversity & Global Studies, and LIN4600 is an approved elective for the Minor in听Diversity & Global Studies.
