Required core courses for the Major

  • IDS 3313 Global Studies I (3 credits): Offers students an introduction to the issues,听
    frameworks, orientations, and methodological heuristics to understand core principles of听
    Global Studies as an academic field of inquiry including issues of regionalism,听
    transnationalism, and globalization from multiple disciplinary approaches.
  • IDS 4315 Global Studies II (3 credits): Offers students advanced theoretical,听
    methodological and research concerns related to Global Studies as an academic field听
    from multiple disciplinary approaches.
  • IDS 4332 Cultural Studies of Globality (3 credits): Offers students an introduction to the听
    issues, frameworks, orientations, and methodological heuristics to understand core听
    principles of cultural studies, which will assist students in negotiating, analyzing, and听
    participating within the increasingly globalized cultures and practices of the twenty-first听
    century.
  • FOL 3880 Research and Bibliographic Methods (3 credits): Offers students an orientation听
    to the nature and problems of academic research with special attention to providing tools听
    necessary to conduct and complete effect research projects.
  • 2 Language courses at the intermediate level or above (2220 and 2221 or 3000 level)

Experiential Learning

Study Abroad, Model United Nations, or internship in selected companies or NGOs (6 credits).

Students who are interested in studying abroad should contact the program coordinator as well as the Center for Global Engagement. Various study abroad programs are available and a variety of scholarships too.

The experiential learning requirement can also be fulfilled through the Model United Nations program. Interested students should contact Dr. Jeffrey Morton in the Department of Political Science: jmorton@fau.edu.听

Students who do not choose the Study Abroad option have to complete 6 credits in internships (two internships: preferably one with a local scope and the other with a global scope). They are encouraged to contact the 大象传媒 Career Center in order to identify possible internships and discuss their choice with the program coordinator.
