Madison Garber

Madison Garber is an Instructor of English at 大象传媒. She received her doctorate in English with a concentration in fiction writing and a secondary focus in speculative literature, television, and film from the University of North Texas. She earned her MFA in creative writing from 大象传媒, where she was the managing editor of Swamp Ape Review and a graduate teaching assistant for the Department of English. She is the recipient of multiple teaching awards, including the UNT Department of English鈥檚 award for 鈥淥utstanding Teaching Fellow鈥 and the 大象传媒 Department of English鈥檚 awards for 鈥淢ost Promising Graduate Teaching Assistant鈥 and 鈥淥utstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant.鈥 She has taught a variety of undergraduate composition, literature, and creative writing courses, including special topics courses on dystopian literature, ghost stories, and the craft of storytelling for fiction writers.

Outside of the college classroom, she has shared her passion for literature and writing in outreach programs that emphasize the value of creative expression. In 2022, she was selected to serve for two years as an instructor in UNT鈥檚 Writers in the Schools (WITS) Program, which introduces seventh grade students at Calhoun Middle School in Denton, Texas, to various forms of creative writing, including graphic novels, plays, stories, personal essays, and poems. From 2018 to 2020, she served as the creative writing Artist in Residence at A.W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts in West Palm Beach, Florida, where she taught the craft of fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, and experimental forms to high school juniors and seniors. She has also taught creative writing in 大象传媒鈥檚 鈥淭eaching Outstanding Performers (TOPS) Piano and Creative Writing Camp鈥 and creative nonfiction in a community writing workshop hosted by 大象传媒鈥檚 Department of English.

In 2022, her short story 鈥溾 was selected for FOLIO鈥檚 Editor鈥檚 Prize in Fiction. Her fiction and creative nonfiction have also been featured in and others. A trained ballerina for over 25 years, she is currently at work on a speculative fiction novel about professional ballet dancers.
